1. Purpose of this Code

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected from swimmers, parents, coaches, volunteers, and visitors at Balfour Swimming School.

Its purpose is to ensure:

• a safe and positive environment

• respect for others

• high standards of behaviour

• safeguarding of children and young people

• enjoyable and inclusive swimming sessions

This Code applies at all times during lessons, events, poolside activities, and communication with the school.

 

 2. Code of Conduct for Swimmers

• Respect others — Treat coaches, volunteers, and other swimmers kindly.

• Follow instructions — Listen to coaches and follow pool rules at all times.

• Stay safe — No running, pushing, ducking, or dangerous behaviour.

• Be responsible — Tell a coach if you feel unwell or unsafe.

• Be kind — Bullying, teasing, or exclusion is not tolerated.

• Look after equipment — Use floats and equipment safely and return them after use.

• Be prepared — Arrive on time with appropriate swimwear and goggles.

• Respect privacy — Follow changing‑room rules and respect others’ personal space.

 

 3. Code of Conduct for Parents & Guardians

• Support your child positively — Encourage effort, not just achievement.

• Respect coaches — Allow coaches to coach; avoid giving conflicting instructions.

• Communicate appropriately — Use respectful language in person and online.

• Share medical information — Inform us of any conditions, injuries, or additional needs.

• Follow safeguarding rules — No photography without permission; follow poolside accessrules.

• Be punctual — Ensure children arrive and are collected on time.

• Respect staff decisions — Safety decisions made by coaches must be followed.

 

 4. Code of Conduct for Coaches & Volunteers

• Put safety first — Conduct pre‑session checks and maintain safe supervision.

• Act professionally — Be punctual, prepared, and appropriately dressed.

• Follow safeguarding procedures — Maintain boundaries, report concerns, and uphold DBS requirements.

• Treat all swimmers fairly — No favouritism, discrimination, or inappropriate behaviour.

• Communicate clearly — Use positive, age‑appropriate language.

• Maintain confidentiality — Handle personal information responsibly.

• Promote enjoyment — Create a supportive, encouraging learning environment.

• Report incidents — Record accidents, near‑misses, or concerns promptly.

 

 5. Code of Conduct for All Members & Visitors

• Respect the venue — Follow all pool rules and staff instructions.

• Use appropriate language — No swearing, shouting, or aggressive behaviour.

• Follow photography rules — No photos or videos without explicit permission.

• Support a positive environment — Encourage others and help maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

 

 6. Breaches of the Code

If this Code is not followed, Balfour Swimming School may take action including:

• verbal reminders

• written warnings

• temporary suspension from sessions

• removal from the programme

• reporting safeguarding concerns to appropriate authorities

• All actions will follow our safeguarding and complaints procedures.

 

 7. Review of the Code

This Code of Conduct will be reviewed annually or sooner if:

• guidance changes

• safeguarding requirements change

• incidents highlight the need for updates
