These rules are in place to maximise the safety of swimmers, coaching staff and spectators during Balfour Swimming School lessons. Breaking them will result in the loss of your child’s place in the swimming school.

Please ensure your child is familiar with these rules before swimming.

1. To avoid spreading germs and dirt, please be barefoot or use footwear that hasn’t been worn outside.

2. Pre‑swim hygiene: Children should visit the toilet and shower before entering the pool.

3. Swimming hats must be worn by all swimmers unless you have spoken to the swimming co‑ordinator.

4. Only coaching staff may stand on the poolside before, during and after lessons.

5. Swimmers must not be by the pool until their teacher calls them over for the start of their lesson.

6. Parents/carers and children not swimming must not stand on the poolside at any time.

7. When accessing the spectator area from the changing rooms, parents/carers must use the ramp, not the steps.

8. Parents/carers will be instructed to leave the spectator area and meet their child in the changing rooms before the lesson ends, to make space for the next group.

9. Parents/carers must not congregate around the changing room entrances at any time.

10. The area around the ramp and steps to the spectator seats must be kept completely clear at all times.

11. If a child wishes to leave the water, they must get permission from the Swimming Teacher before returning to their parent/carer.

12. If swimmers misbehave, they will sit on the poolside while the lesson continues.

13. Photography or filming of any kind is not permitted anywhere at the swimming pool.

14. Parents/carers must ensure that all children in their care who are not swimming are supervised at all times and not allowed to play in the pool area.

15. The Pool Manager and team have the authority to enforce these rules as they see fit.

16. Changing rooms:

    • Parents of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 must change their children in the correct changing room:

      • Male parents in the men’s changing room

      • Female parents in the women’s changing room

      • This applies regardless of the child’s gender.

    • Children in Year 3 and above are expected to change themselves in their own gender’s changing room.

    • Parents of these older children should go straight to the spectator area. After lessons, parents may wait in the spectator area until their child is ready.
